Common Name(s): Calcium hydroxyapatite, calcium hydroxyapatite, hydroxyapatite mineral, biomimetic enamel bone remineralising active
CAS Number: N/a
DESCRIPTION
What It Does: Remineralises tooth enamel through epitaxial crystal growth on demineralised enamel — filling subsurface lesions with structurally identical biomimetic apatite without requiring fluoride.
Why It's Used: Hydroxyapatite provides the most biomimetic enamel remineralisation — identical crystal structure to native enamel enabling seamless integration into the existing enamel lattice.
How It Works: Ha nanocrystals (20-100 nm) adsorb onto demineralised enamel through ca²⁺ electrostatic attraction. epitaxial growth: ha crystals align with existing enamel crystal c-axis orientation filling subsurface lesions. the [ca₁₀(po₄)₆(oh)₂] stoichiometry exactly matches enamel apatite providing identical mechanical properties.
