Common Name(s): Galactose dehydrogenase,galactose dehydrogenase,oxidoreductase enzyme,anti-melanogenic galactose oxidation active

CAS Number: N/a

DESCRIPTION

What It Does: Provides controlled enzymatic h₂o₂ generation for tyrosinase cu²⁺ oxidation — delivering brightening through a controlled in-situ oxidation system that is more stable and predictable than directly formulated peroxide.

Why It's Used: Enzyme-generated h₂o₂ provides more controlled brightening than direct peroxide application — the enzymatic reaction rate provides sustained low-level h₂o₂ at concentrations that inhibit tyrosinase without causing skin oxidative damage from excess peroxide.

How It Works: Galdh: galactose + nad⁺ → galactonate + nadh + h⁺ (via galactonolactone intermediate). in skin context with galactose substrate and o₂: galactose oxidase-type reaction → h₂o₂ generation at ~0.01-0.1 mm → tyrosinase cu²⁺ oxidation → cu²⁺ → cu⁴⁺ transition state → enzyme inactivation → melanin inhibition.

SAFETY & COMPATIBILITY

Safety Profile: Good safety profile at recommended concentrations. ewg score: 1–2.

Works Well With: Standard skincare actives

Avoid Combining With: No known significant incompatibilities

SCIENTIFIC NOTE

Enzyme activity in formulation: galdh requires nad⁺ cofactor and neutral-to-slightly-alkaline ph (optimum 7-8) — formulation must include nad⁺ or its precursor and avoid low ph that denatures the enzyme.
