Common Name(s): Hydroxyisoleucine,hydroxyisoleucine,(4r)-hydroxyisoleucine,fenugreek amino acid insulin sensitiser
CAS Number: N/a
DESCRIPTION
What It Does: Provides insulin sensitisation activity through insulin receptor substrate (irs-1) phosphorylation improving glucose uptake in adipocytes — a mechanism relevant to anti-cellulite formulations targeting improved metabolic function in subcutaneous fat.
Why It's Used: Hydroxyisoleucine's insulin-sensitising mechanism provides anti-cellulite benefit through a lipid metabolism pathway completely different from caffeine (camp/pde) or carnitine (beta-oxidation) — enabling genuine multi-mechanism anti-cellulite formulation.
How It Works: (4r)-hydroxyisoleucine directly phosphorylates irs-1 at tyr465 (an insulin receptor substrate site) → pi3k activation → glut4 translocation to cell membrane → increased glucose uptake in adipocytes → reduced lipid accumulation. this insulin mimetic activity is independent of the insulin receptor itself providing additive benefit with endogenous insulin signalling.

Works Well With: Vitamin c,vitamin e,ferulic acid, spf, other antioxidants
Avoid Combining With: No significant incompatibilities
SCIENTIFIC NOTE
Hydroxyisoleucine's specificity for adipocyte irs-1 versus muscle irs-1 phosphorylation provides targeted anti-cellulite activity — the r stereoisomer is responsible for activity; racemic mixtures have reduced potency.
