Common Name(s): Methoxy peg-200 betulin,methoxy peg-200 betulin,pegylated betulin,water-soluble birch triterpene anti-inflammatory
CAS Number: N/a
DESCRIPTION
What It Does: Provides betulin's anti-inflammatory nf-kb inhibition and skin barrier repair in a water-soluble pegylated form enabling aqueous formulation incorporation โ eliminating the insolubility limitation of native betulin for use in serums and emulsions.
Why It's Used: Betulin pegylation solves the primary formulation barrier to betulin's clinical potential โ native betulin is practically insoluble in water (logp ~7.6), limiting cosmetic use to anhydrous systems; pegylation raises aqueous solubility >1000ร enabling serum and cream incorporation.
How It Works: Betulin lupane triterpene (2ฮฒ,3ฮฒ-diol, lupane skeleton): ikk-ฮฒ inhibition โ nf-ฮบb โ anti-inflammatory; skin barrier: beta-glucocerebrosidase activation โ ceramide synthesis from glucosylceramide โ sc lipid barrier repair. pegylation at the c3 or c28 hydroxyl: methoxy peg chain raises solubility without blocking the 2ฮฒ-hydroxyl pharmacophore for ikk binding.

SCIENTIFIC NOTE
Betulin vs betulinic acid: betulin (28-alcohol) provides superior skin barrier activity; betulinic acid (28-carboxylic acid) provides stronger anti-proliferative activity. pegylated betulin targets the barrier-repair and anti-inflammatory applications specifically.
