Common Name(s): Oleamide, oleamide, primary fatty acid amide, endocannabinoid sleep signal skin active

CAS Number: N/a

DESCRIPTION

What It Does: Provides cb1-mediated anti-inflammatory and calming activity from the endogenous cannabinoid lipid's receptor partial agonism โ€” reducing neurogenic inflammation and skin hypersensitivity through the endocannabinoid pathway.

Why It's Used: Oleamide is the only cosmetically applicable endogenous cb1 agonist โ€” its natural production in human csf during sleep provides physiological rationale for its anti-inflammatory calming action in skin's same cb1 receptor-expressing nerve endings.

How It Works: Oleamide partial agonism at cb1 receptors on skin sensory neurons โ†’ gi inhibition of adenylate cyclase โ†’ reduced camp โ†’ decreased substance p and cgrp release โ†’ reduced neurogenic vasodilation and mast cell histamine release. gaba-a potentiation โ†’ ipsp โ†’ reduced sensory neuron excitability. the combined mechanism provides non-sedating topical calming.

Typically Found In: Sensitive skin,calming,neurocosmetics

SAFETY & COMPATIBILITY

Safety Profile: Good safety profile at recommended concentrations. ewg score: 1โ€“2.

Works Well With: Standard skincare actives

Avoid Combining With: No known significant incompatibilities

SCIENTIFIC NOTE

Oleamide rapid skin hydrolysis by fatty acid amide hydrolase (faah) limits topical duration โ€” faah inhibitor co-formulation (cbd, pea) extends oleamide skin half-life for sustained calming activity.
