Common Name(s): Palmitoyl carnosine,palmitoyl carnosine,lipophilic carnosine,anti-glycation peptide ester
CAS Number: N/a
DESCRIPTION
What It Does: Provides carnosine anti-glycation carbonyl quenching and zinc/copper chelating antioxidant activity with c16 palmitoyl chain-enhanced sc lipid bilayer penetration.
Why It's Used: Palmitoyl carnosine is selected over free carnosine for sc delivery โ the palmitoyl ester resolves carnosine's fundamental sc penetration barrier (the zwitterionic peptide cannot partition into the lipid bilayer), delivering anti-glycation activity to dermal fibroblasts where age accumulation drives wrinkle formation.
How It Works: Palmitoyl carnosine โ sc lipid bilayer partitioning (c16 chain) โ esterase hydrolysis โ carnosine release โ beta-alanyl-his carbonyl quenching (anti-glycation) + znยฒโบ/cuยฒโบ chelation (antioxidant) in dermis.
Typically Found In: Anti-aging,anti-glycation,premium serums

SOURCING & ETHICS
Vegan Status: Conditional - feedstock declaration required
Halal Status: Unverified - feedstock declaration required (plant, animal and petrochemical routes all exist)
Source Notes: Plant-derived extract or synthetic. [audit 2026-07-29 rev2: origin-dependent: the same inci exists in plant, animal and petrochemical versions and the name does not discriminate. determination requires shariah-panel sign-off.]
SKIN COMPATIBILITY
Irritancy Rating: 1/5 โ very low
Comedogenicity Rating: 0/5 โ non-comedogenic
Sensitivity Concerns: Non-irritating; well-tolerated.
Safe for Sensitive Skin: Yes
SAFETY & COMPATIBILITY
Safety Profile: Excellent safety profile. ewg score: 1.
Works Well With: Vitamin c,vitamin e,ferulic acid, spf, other antioxidants
Avoid Combining With: No significant incompatibilities
SCIENTIFIC NOTE
Anti-glycation activity addresses the rate-limiting step in dermal aging โ age crosslinks accumulate irreversibly in collagen and elastin, making prevention via carnosine carbonyl quenching more effective than reversal.
