What Dermafique Says
Product Description:
As you go about your day, from facing the sun when you are outdoors to spending time in air-conditioned rooms when indoors, your skin experiences gradual moisture loss. This moisture loss is formally known as transepidermal water loss and is a common condition in which water/moisture passively evaporates through the layers of the skin, including the topmost layer, i.e. the barrier. This occurs due to a number of environmental factors such as humidity levels, fluctuating temperatures, and even seasonal changes. This phenomenon only leaves your skin looking dull, dry, and dehydrated. To combat this, you need a hydrator that will not only repair and protect your skinโs barrier but also lock in moisture to keep your skin hydrated and plump. Hydra Tonique [Gel Fluid] is enriched with Phaeophyceae [seaweed] as well as Vitamin E beads to prevent transepidermal water loss. It fortifies the skin barrier, locks in moisture, and provides increased and sustained hydration of the skin cells. It is lightweight, fast-absorbing, and non-greasy and is an ideal face moisturizer for normal to oily skin. Its ultra-light formula makes it suitable for use in hot and humid climates.

DESCRIPTION
What It Does: Absorbs or reflects uv radiation, preventing uv-induced dna damage, photo-oxidative stress, and premature skin aging.
Why It's Used: Uv filters are the active ingredients in sun protection โ without them, formulations cannot make spf claims or prevent solar-induced skin damage.
How It Works: The uv-absorbing chromophore undergoes photoexcitation by uv photons, then dissipates the absorbed energy through thermal relaxation (chemical filters) or photon scattering/reflection (physical filters), preventing photon penetration to skin cells.
Typically Found In: Sunscreens, moisturizers with spf, foundations with spf
TECHNICAL DETAILS
Primary Category: Uv filters
Secondary Functions: Skin-protecting
Application Areas:
Facial Skincare
Body Care
Hair Care
Beard Care
Color Cosmetics (Makeup)
Dietary/Oral Supplements
Typical Concentration Range: 0.5โ25% (within regulatory limits)
SOURCING & ETHICS
Vegan Status: Yes
Halal Status: Yes
Source Notes: Synthetic uv filter; no animal components.
SKIN COMPATIBILITY
Irritancy Rating: 1
Comedogenicity Rating: 0
Sensitivity Concerns: Contact allergy to uv filters occurs in approximately 1โ3% of the general population; patch testing recommended for those with known photosensitivity.
Safe for Sensitive Skin: Yes
SAFETY & COMPATIBILITY
Safety Profile: Regulatory approval required per market (eu annex vi, fda otc monograph, etc.). generally non-irritating at approved concentrations.
Works Well With: Other uv filters, antioxidants, emollients
Avoid Combining With: Incompatible filter combinations (photodegradation); check regulatory approvals per region
SCIENTIFIC NOTE
Uv filters operate through two mechanisms: organic/chemical filters absorb uv photons through electronic excitation (ฯโฯ* transitions in conjugated systems), then dissipate energy via thermal relaxation; inorganic/physical filters (tio2, zno) scatter and reflect photons through mie scattering (particle size 50โ300 nm) and band gap absorption. spf is measured in vivo (iso 24444) as the ratio of minimal erythema doses with and without sunscreen.
Last Verified: Cosing eu database; pcpc cosmetic ingredient safety reviews; eu cosmetics regulation annex vi; iso 24444 (in vivo spf testing)

Dimethicone
Common Name(s): Pdms,polydimethylsiloxane,silicone fluid
CAS Number: 9006-65-9
DESCRIPTION
What It Does: Provides silicone-characteristic silky feel and skin protection with adjustable viscosity.
Why It's Used: The benchmark cosmetic silicone โ sets the gold standard for silky application feel, spreadability, and skin protection in virtually all skin care categories.
How It Works: Polydimethylsiloxane chain flexibility provides extremely low surface tension and high spreadability. inert si-o backbone provides chemical stability and excellent skin tolerance. occlusive film formation reduces tewl. higher viscosity grades provide more intense conditioning.
Typically Found In: Moisturizers, foundations, primers, sunscreens โ nearly universal
TECHNICAL DETAILS
Primary Category: Functional ingredient โ polydimethylsiloxane
Secondary Functions: Barrier sealing,softening
Application Areas:
Facial Skincare
Body Care
Hair Care
Beard Care
Color Cosmetics (Makeup)
Dietary/Oral Supplements
Typical Concentration Range: 0.1%โ30%
SOURCING & ETHICS
Vegan Status: Yes โ synthetic
Halal Status: Yes
Source Notes: Plant-derived, synthetic or animal-derived. verify source.
SKIN COMPATIBILITY
Irritancy Rating: 1/5 โ very low
Comedogenicity Rating: 1/5 โ low; formulation-dependent
Sensitivity Concerns: Non-irritating.
Safe for Sensitive Skin: Yes
SAFETY & COMPATIBILITY
Safety Profile: Excellent safety profile. ewg score: 1.
Works Well With: Humectants, ceramides, actives as carrier
Avoid Combining With: No significant incompatibilities
SCIENTIFIC NOTE
Dimethicone's exceptional silky feel arises from its very low intermolecular attractive forces (weak van der waals forces due to non-polar methyl groups) that allow silicone chains to slide freely over skin. the coefficient of kinetic friction for pdms against skin (~0.04) is among the lowest of any cosmetic material โ explaining why even small amounts transform product feel.
