What Minimalist Says

Product Description:

Made with stabilized Vitamin C derivative "Ethyl Ascorbic Acid" that has 86% pure Vitamin C content. That is much higher than 40-50% content present in other Vitamin C derivatives. At a pH of ~4.0 it is highly stable and effective. Contains 1% Acetyl Glucosamine (AG), an amino-monosaccharide (simple sugar) and a precursor of hyaluronic acid, that provides skin moisturization, boosts natural Hyaluronic Acid synthesis, and regulates natural exfoliation. Boosted with Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) which are new age hydroxy acids, suitable even for sensitive skin. PHAs gently remove dead skin cells to give skin a glow. Also have antioxidant/chelation, barrier strengthening, and moisturizing effects. Formulated in Centella Water to soothe and heal skin. Formulated with ET-VC, high purity Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, from Corum Inc, Taiwan.

Ingredients Details

3-o-ethyl Ascorbic Acid

Common Name(s): 3-o-ethyl ascorbic acid

DESCRIPTION

What It Does: Loosens corneocyte adhesion in the stratum corneum, accelerating cell turnover, refining skin texture, and improving radiance.

Why It's Used: Organic acids at cosmetic ph values provide controlled keratolytic exfoliation that improves skin texture, pore appearance, and radiance without mechanical irritation.

How It Works: At appropriate ph, the acid's undissociated form penetrates the stratum corneum and dissolves the ionic bonds between corneocyte desmosomes (calcium chelation mechanism), facilitating controlled desquamation and cell renewal.

Typically Found In: Toners,exfoliants,serums,peels,cleansers

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Primary Category: Exfoliants

Secondary Functions: Brightening,keratolytic

Application Areas:

Facial Skincare

Body Care

Hair Care

Beard Care

Color Cosmetics (Makeup)

Dietary/Oral Supplements

Typical Concentration Range: 0.5โ€“20%

SOURCING & ETHICS

Vegan Status: Yes

Halal Status: Yes

Source Notes: Synthetic or plant-derived acid; no animal components.

SKIN COMPATIBILITY

Irritancy Rating: 2

Comedogenicity Rating: 0

Sensitivity Concerns: May cause irritation or stinging in sensitive or barrier-compromised skin at high concentrations; patch test recommended.

Safe for Sensitive Skin: Conditional

SAFETY & COMPATIBILITY

Safety Profile: Safe within recommended ph and concentration ranges. sensitization risk increases above 10% aha. patch test recommended for sensitive skin. mildly irritating to some individuals at typical cosmetic use concentrations.

Works Well With: Niacinamide,hyaluronic acid,ceramides,vitamin c

Avoid Combining With: High concentrations on sensitive/broken skin; avoid with physical exfoliants

SCIENTIFIC NOTE

Cosmetic acids function at the pka boundary: only the undissociated acid (rcooh) penetrates the stratum corneum lipid barrier, while the ionized carboxylate (rcooโป) does not. the henderson-hasselbalch equation governs the fraction of active species at formulation ph; typically 0.5โ€“3.0% undissociated acid provides efficacy while minimizing irritation.

Centella Asiatica Leaf Water

Common Name(s): Centella asiatica leaf water, centella asiatica leaf water, cica triterpenoid active, wound healing anti-inflammatory

CAS Number: N/a

DESCRIPTION

What It Does: Accelerates wound healing through asiaticoside-mediated collagen type i upregulation, provides anti-inflammatory activity from madecassoside nf-kb inhibition, and restores skin barrier function from triterpenoid-mediated ceramide synthesis support.

Why It's Used: Centella asiatica is the reference k-beauty sensitive skin active โ€” the cica brand positioning built on decades of clinical wound healing evidence for the four core triterpenoid saponins across hundreds of formulations.

How It Works: Asiaticoside โ†’ hydrolysis โ†’ asiatic acid + glucose; asiatic acid โ†’ tgf-ฮฒ1 signalling โ†’ smad2/3 โ†’ col1a1 upregulation (wound healing). madecassoside โ†’ iฮบb kinase inhibition โ†’ nf-ฮบb blockade โ†’ tnf-ฮฑ/il-1ฮฒ reduction (anti-inflammatory). combined: wound healing + anti-inflammatory = the definitive cica skin barrier restoration mechanism.

Dimethyl Isosorbide

Common Name(s): Dmi,isosorbide dimethyl ether,arlasolve dmi

CAS Number: 5306-85-4

DESCRIPTION

What It Does: Provides biocompatible penetration enhancement for improved active ingredient delivery.

Why It's Used: Biocompatible penetration enhancer from renewable sorbitol โ€” dmi provides penetration enhancement without the toxicity of oleic acid or conventional chemical penetration enhancers.

How It Works: Cyclic ether from sorbitol is biocompatible and biodegradable. disrupts stratum corneum lipid packing via ether oxygen hydrogen bonding. solubilises challenging actives (retinoids, salicylic acid, ahas). enhances penetration 2โ€“5ร— vs equivalent concentrations without dmi.

Typically Found In: Active delivery formulas,penetration-enhanced products, retinoid vehicles

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Primary Category: Functional ingredient โ€“ penetration-enhancing solvent

Secondary Functions: Skin conditioning

Application Areas:

Facial Skincare

Body Care

Hair Care

Beard Care

Color Cosmetics (Makeup)

Dietary/Oral Supplements

Typical Concentration Range: 1%โ€“20%

SOURCING & ETHICS

Vegan Status: Yes โ€“ from sorbitol (corn or wheat derived)

Halal Status: Yes

Source Notes: Commercially produced for cosmetic use. verify vegan/halal status with supplier.

SKIN COMPATIBILITY

Irritancy Rating: 1/5 โ€“ very low

Comedogenicity Rating: 0/5 โ€“ non-comedogenic

SAFETY & COMPATIBILITY

Safety Profile: Good safety profile at recommended concentrations. ewg score: 1โ€“2.

Works Well With: Standard skincare actives

Avoid Combining With: No known significant incompatibilities

SCIENTIFIC NOTE

Dmi's penetration enhancement mechanism differs from oleic acid's lipid disruption: dmi hydrogen bonds to stratum corneum proteins and lipids, temporarily creating more permeable protein-lipid domains without the membrane-fluidisation that causes oleic acid's irritation. this protein-hydrogen-bonding mechanism provides penetration enhancement from a different, gentler pathway.
